Debt and Loans: Exit Strategies

Debt burden is one of the main causes of financial instability. Even with regular payments, many end up trapped where minimum payments only extend the loan term and increase the total overpayment. Understanding the mechanics of debt and choosing a repayment strategy are key skills for maintaining control over personal finances.

The course program covers calculating the real cost of a loan, taking into account interest, fees, and hidden payments. You will learn to compare different repayment scenarios—from equal payments to accelerated schemes. Two key strategies are explored in detail: “debt avalanche” (prioritizing the most expensive loans) and “debt snowball” (starting with the smallest balance). Restructuring and refinancing methods are also covered, along with basic approaches to negotiating with the bank to reduce the rate or extend the term. A separate block focuses on creating a repayment plan without taking on new loans—based on your current income and expenses.

The course methodology is built around practical calculations and real-world case studies. You will master tools for independently analyzing a debt portfolio and avoid common mistakes—such as incorrectly estimating the benefit of early repayment or ignoring penalty charges. The emphasis is on applicable algorithms rather than generic advice.

The course is intended for borrowers with multiple loans who want to systematize their payments; for those facing delinquencies and who want to develop an exit plan without bankruptcy; for specialists advising clients on debt matters; and for anyone who wants to assess the real cost of their current loans and make well-reasoned financial decisions.

By the end of the course, you will be able to use methods for calculating the effective interest rate and overpayment, independently compare loan offers, and choose the optimal repayment strategy. You will learn the terminology (annuity, differentiated payment, loan principal) and be able to interpret payment schedules. The knowledge gained will help you make informed decisions about refinancing or early repayment and confidently negotiate with creditors.
