Management for Those Who Suddenly Became Team Leaders

A sudden promotion to a manager is a situation familiar to many specialists. Yesterday you were responsible only for your own work, and today you are expected to set tasks, control deadlines, and motivate your colleagues. This course is designed for those who want to quickly and systematically master core management skills to avoid typical beginner mistakes and confidently lead the team to results.

The program covers key aspects of managing a team: goal setting with SMART, task decomposition, and prioritization using the Eisenhower matrix. You will learn delegation techniques, including situational leadership (the Hersey–Blanchard model), and how to run regular meetings (daily stand-up, weekly review). Separate modules focus on feedback: constructive criticism using the SBI method, praise using the “action — impact” principle, and analyzing mistakes without demotivating people. The course also covers motivation tools: Vroom’s expectancy theory, approaches to non monetary incentives, and working with demotivated employees. You will learn how to resolve conflicts (the Thomas–Kilmann method) and how to give assignments so they get done the first time.

The course methodology is built around case studies from real practice. Each topic is accompanied by an action algorithm that you can apply immediately after the session. Common mistakes are analyzed: micromanagement, vague tasks, fear of delegating, and attempts to do everything yourself. You will receive templates for task setting, checklists for meetings, and communication frameworks for different types of direct reports.

The course is intended for specialists who have just received their first leadership role: development team leads, senior engineers, lead designers, project managers without experience managing people, as well as administrators of small businesses who suddenly became leaders of a department or branch.

By the end of the course, you will have a team management system in place: from setting goals to monitoring execution. You will master specific techniques for delegation, motivation, and feedback, learn to interpret employee behavior, and choose an appropriate leadership style. Your toolkit will include templates and algorithms that will help you organize work so the team achieves results without your constant involvement.
