Impostor Syndrome: Work Techniques
Impostor syndrome is not a diagnosis but a persistent thinking pattern in which you attribute your achievements to external factors (luck, happenstance) rather than your own abilities. Even with objectively high results, you may experience fear of being exposed and a sense that you are being overestimated. This inner critic not only undermines confidence but also prevents you from taking on new challenges, asking for a raise, or sharing ideas. The course offers a systematic approach to working with this phenomenon based on cognitive and behavioral techniques.
The course program covers several key blocks. You will learn the mechanisms behind impostor syndrome: how social expectations, family beliefs, and perfectionism create a vicious cycle of self-devaluation. Specific cognitive distortions are examined in detail—for example, filtering (ignoring successes) and catastrophizing (exaggerating the consequences of mistakes). You will master the technique of “separating facts from interpretations”: you will record objective data about your work and distinguish it from internal judgments. A dedicated block focuses on working with praise: you will learn why compliments cause discomfort and practice accepting recognition without discounting it. Planning methods for tasks that reduce paralysis before complex projects are also covered: decomposition, setting realistic success criteria, and time management that accounts for perfectionism.
The course methodology is built on the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and evidence-based practices. You will not just learn theory—each session includes skill practice exercises: thought journaling, role-playing, and analysis of real situations from your practice. Special attention is given to common mistakes: trying to “get rid of” impostor syndrome completely (which is impossible) and substituting self-esteem with external approval. You will learn to build a stable sense of competence based on observable data rather than emotions.
The course is designed for specialists who have already achieved a certain level of success but continue to doubt themselves: middle and senior managers, IT specialists (developers, product managers), researchers and educators, as well as creative professionals (designers, writers, architects). It will suit those who often take on excessive responsibility or avoid new projects due to fear of not being able to handle them.
By the end of the course, you will have specific tools for self-reflection and correcting distorted thoughts. You will be able to recognize impostor syndrome triggers and apply techniques to reduce its impact in work and academic contexts. You will develop a conceptual framework for analyzing your own patterns, along with a set of strategies for maintaining an adequate self-assessment over the long term.
