Time Management for Beginners
Time management is one of the key skills that determines effectiveness in professional and academic work. A lack of time, chronic deadlines, and task overload reduce productivity and lead to stress. The course offers a systematic approach to organizing your working time, helping you build realistic plans and reduce losses from ineffective actions.
The program covers the basics of time management: setting goals with SMART, the Eisenhower Matrix for prioritizing tasks, the Pomodoro method for focus, and day and week planning techniques (time blocking, daily highlight). You will explore GTD (Getting Things Done) tools for task management, methods to fight procrastination (the two-minute rule, the “frog” method), as well as approaches to delegation and estimating time costs. Special attention is given to long-term planning: breaking goals down into quarters and months, maintaining task lists, and conducting regular retrospectives.
The course methodology is built around hands-on practice: you will work with real cases, complete exercises on setting priorities, and create your own weekly plan. Typical mistakes are covered—multitasking, lack of buffer time, perfectionism—and ways to avoid them. You will learn to analyze your workload and adjust plans when circumstances change.
The course is designed for specialists who want to improve personal effectiveness: managers and leaders handling large volumes of tasks; freelancers and entrepreneurs organizing their own time; senior-year students and PhD students combining study with work; and employees in project teams facing tight deadlines.
By the end of the course, you will have a set of techniques for planning and controlling tasks, understand how to estimate time costs for different types of activities, and be able to interpret the causes of overload. You will master time-management terminology (deadline, priority, time block, retrospective) and receive algorithms for choosing the right tool for a specific task.
